Somebody handed you the holiday party. You have a budget, a headcount that keeps changing, and a date that has already moved twice. Short version first: holiday party venues in Germantown, MD come in three kinds, a restaurant with a private room, a rented hall you fill yourself, and an entertainment venue with a party package. For most groups of 12 to about 130, the restaurant room is the cheapest way to get food, drinks, sound and a decorated space in one booking. Here is how to plan it, what it costs per head, and what to ask any venue before you sign.
Holiday Party Venues in Germantown, MD: Your Three Real Options
A restaurant private room. The kitchen that feeds the dining room feeds your party, the bar is licensed and staffed, and the lights and microphone are already in the building. Best for 12 to about 130 people.
A rented hall. Four walls and a floor plan. Food comes from a caterer, drinks need a bartender and often a one-day license, sound and lighting are rentals.
An entertainment venue. Good for a team that wants an activity. The food is usually secondary and the price per head climbs fast with drinks.
The Timeline: When to Do What
December Fridays and Saturdays go first. Work backward from that.
8 to 10 weeks out (mid to late October). Set the budget and a rough headcount. Pick two or three dates, at least one a weeknight. Find out whether the company covers food only, food plus two drinks, or everything.
6 to 8 weeks out (early November). Tour. Get a written quote for each date and put the deposit on your first choice. If a venue cannot explain its deposit terms in one sentence, keep looking.
4 weeks out. Send the invitation with an RSVP deadline. Lock the menu style and ask who needs a vegetarian, gluten-free or kids option.
2 weeks out. Final headcount to the venue. Confirm the drink plan, the arrival time, and who brings the slideshow laptop and the HDMI cable. The week of, one call to confirm who meets you at the door.
Budget Per Head: How to Build the Number
Start with a per-person figure and multiply, because the headcount will move and the math has to move with it. Five lines:
- Food. Quotes at Señor Tequila's start from $22 a person. The fajita buffet, the most popular holiday order, starts from $26.
- Drinks. The biggest swing in the budget. Two tickets per guest keeps it predictable. An open bar does not.
- Room fee. Some venues charge one, some waive it with a minimum spend. Weekday fees are lower everywhere. Here they start from $200.
- Tax and gratuity. Sales tax, Maryland's higher tax on alcohol and a large-group service charge all add to the bill, so ask each venue for its exact figure.
- Extras. A DJ, karaoke or mariachi, decorations, gifts, a cake fee.
Headcount to Room Size
Venues quote seated and standing capacity. Standing (cocktail style) usually runs about 20 percent higher, but every room and every venue is different, so ask for both numbers. Pick the format first, then the room, and size it to the people who will actually show, not the invite list. Speeches need everyone facing one way, so use seated numbers.

For scale, the four rooms at Señor Tequila's:
| Room | Seated | Standing |
|---|---|---|
| Mexican Room | 112 | 134 |
| International Room | 96 | 115 |
| Indoor Patio | 48 | 58 |
| Bar area | 108 | 150 cap |
A team of 25 to 45 is happiest in the 48-seat room. A department of 80 wants the 96 or the 112.

Buffet, Set Menu, or Order Off the Menu
Buffet is the holiday default for good reason: it absorbs a moving headcount, keeps people mingling, and nobody waits 40 minutes for a plate. Fajita buffets work because the line keeps sizzling and people go back for thirds.
A set menu, a short printed card of four to six dishes guests order from at the table, suits a dinner with speeches. Nobody stands in a line in a blazer.
Order off the full menu works under about 20 people. Above that, firing 30 different entrées at once slows everything down. Whichever you choose, read the menu first and make sure it is food your team wants to eat.
Drinks: Tickets, Cash Bar, or Open Bar
Drink tickets are the sane middle. You and the coordinator decide what a ticket covers and how many each guest gets. Anything past that is a cash bar. The budget stays fixed. HR stays calm.
Cash bar costs the company nothing and feels like it. Open bar is easy to say yes to in October and hard to explain in January. Cap it by time or category.
Ask about self-serve alcohol stations, too. A good venue will not allow them. Every drink with alcohol in it should be poured by a bartender. Señor Tequila's does not do them.
Weekday vs Weekend, and the Lunch Trick
A December Saturday is the most expensive room of the year and the hardest to get. A Thursday gets you a smaller room fee and a calmer kitchen.
The lunch trick: Señor Tequila's does not open to the public until 3 PM Monday through Friday, so a weekday lunch party can have a very large room, or the whole building, with nobody else around. Complete privacy, and the VIP treatment for your whole team.
December 24 and 25 are off the table almost everywhere, and many venues, this one included, close Thanksgiving Day (the Thanksgiving Eve party the night before is a different story). The week between Christmas and New Year's is usually wide open. New Year's Eve private rooms are available here if you ask.
Company Holiday Party Ideas That Work in a Restaurant
Most company holiday party ideas for Montgomery County that come up in a search need a hall and a rental truck. These do not.

- A mariachi set. One hour minimum, subject to availability, and dinner turns into an event without a single decoration.
- Karaoke in your own room. DJ booth, sound, lighting, your playlist, your colleagues' regrets. Entertainment upgrades here start from $499.
- A gift the venue already gives. From November 27 through December 31, every visit to Señor Tequila's sends you home with a sealed holiday gift box. Bring it back unopened between January 1 and February 13 and open it at the table: free margaritas, entrées, appetizers, an Avion shooter, dessert, and one $500 gift certificate somewhere in the stack. One per table per check, parties of 1 to 50, no cash value, not combinable, and the offer may change or end.
- Bring the party to the office instead. Catering trays with 48 hours notice, and sometimes we can make a last-minute order work, so it is always worth a call.
Questions to Ask Any Holiday Party Venue
Ask every venue the same list.
- What is the room fee for my date, and how many hours does it cover?
- What is the deposit, and until when is it refundable?
- Is there a food and drink minimum?
- Per-person price for a buffet, and for a set menu?
- How do drinks work, and can we cap them per guest?
- Is there a microphone and a screen in the room, and what cable does it take?
- Who is my contact, and how fast do they reply?
- Can you invoice the company, and do you work with tax-exempt groups?
Why Groups Choose Señor Tequila's
Señor Tequila's is a family-owned Mexican restaurant on Century Blvd, next to Topgolf, run by the Rivas brothers in Germantown since 2015. Four private rooms hand-painted by artists from Mexico City, and the whole house decorated for the holidays from the foyer to the bar. The kitchen, the bar and the sound are already in the building, so one booking covers the whole night.
